Sculptor Yeo Chee Kiong created 64 floatation pieces that form a modern-day Bagua configuration – this sets the stage for face-off of the Elements locked on tumultuous dances towards the irrevocable course of tipping point in nature.
Most would have heard of the Eight Immortals, a group of legendary xian (or "immortals") in Chinese mythology. In [In]finite Octagon, the legend is reinterpreted – filmed on location in a disused fish farm and nestled among wild vegetation and an abandoned old school hall. Dance, new sounds of traditional instruments, and a fluid art installation help imbue contemporary attributes to the legend.
[In]finite Octagon highlights the tipping points in abstract terms of our rapidly deteriorating environment. The film marks the first of four milestone presentations under the Project Search 8 Immortals inspired by the Chinese grassroots legend with the same name. The project is conceived by Cultural Medallion recipient Angela Liong with new music composer Joyce Beetuan Koh.
The twin film release on SISTIC Live also includes another 15-minute motion graphic film, INFIN8OCTAGON by collaborator New Zealand intermediate artist Daniel Belton.
