The Istana rarely opens its pearly white gates to the public, but when it does, you know you’re in for a family-friendly treat. This time, it welcomes you for a day of performances, activities, and exclusive tours in celebration of the Hari Raya season and the upcoming Labour Day.
The day kicks off with a series of lively cultural performances near the Japanese Garden, featuring dikir barat and Malay dance, as well as Bharatanatyam and Indian folk dance. There are also choral showcases by the Punggol View Primary School Children’s Choir and Voices of Singapore Children’s Choir. Then, look forward to a music performance by the MacPherson Philharmonic Orchestra, featuring orchestral takes on Raya classics and K-pop favourites.
The programme rolls over into the different play zones across the Istana grounds. There are facepainting booths, craft workshops, balloon sculpting and even a game of lawn bowls. For tours, you can choose between self-guided and registered trails to explore the historical site and its landmarks. Beyond the activities are plenty of food trucks and F&B tents to keep your tummies full, too. Treat yourself to waffles, ice cream from Swensens, kebabs, Old Chang Kee snacks and loads more.
Entry is free for all children under four, Singapore citizens and permanent residents. Otherwise, there’s a $10 fee for kids and $20 for adults.
