Time Out says

The role of a caretaker is important, yet greatly underappreciated at the same time. Taking on the role when your loved one is experiencing mental or physical difficulties can lead to a loss of one’s sense of self, and even breed  resentment towards the person you love. Toh Ee Ming’s documentary titled Lady! follows Siti, who takes on the role of a caregiver when her husband is diagnosed with young onset dementia. The film showcases Siti’s journey as she attempts to reclaim her sense of self while still taking care of her husband.

The film is produced by Toh Ee Ming, a freelance journalist who has written for various news outlets such as Al Jazeera, Southeast Asia Globe, and The Straits Times. Her articles mainly raise awareness about social issues, including mental health in Singapore, endangered vultures in the Himalayas, and the aftermath of a disastrous toxic waste crisis. Lady! Represents   her passion for social justice and seeks to encourage viewers  to rally behind the carers in our society.

The film screening will be followed by a conversation with Toh Ee Ming and theatre actress Noorlinah Mohamed, who has experience with dementia caregiving. The panel  will be moderated by Jason Foo, the Chief Executive Officer of Dementia Singapore, to guide a discussion on the joys and challenges of caregiving and the everyday realities of  people living with dementia. You can find out more about the film and watch the trailer here.
