If you’ve got a thing for fantasy and local folklore, then mark your calendars. Lion City Faire is more than just your traditional Renaissance-style fair, as it reimagines Singapore’s history and heritage through a distinctly Southeast Asian fantasy lens. Themed A Symphony of Land and Sea, the weekend festival unfolding at Fort Canning Park draws inspiration from regional myths, legends and historical figures to create a culturally rich fantasy playground. Imagine fairy courts inspired by the Merlion, or warriors and spellcasters that draw from icons such as Sang Nila Utama and Badang.
Beyond the costumes and role-playing, the two-day affair also features a massive marketplace with over 70 vendors offering everything, from fan art and handcrafted goods to themed merchandise, food and plenty of medieval-inspired treasures. Other activities include an introduction to sword-fighting by Bastion Hema, miniature painting classes by New Painters Covenant, a bone potion-making workshop by Black Crow Taxidermy, and practical campcraft conducted by Longkang Adventures.
For the Baldur’s Gate fans among us, here’s your chance to meet and greet British actor Theo Solomon, who lends his voice to the popular video game series. Singaporean drag artist Opera Tang is also scheduled to make an appearance, alongside local and international cosplayers like Kiyo, Ruri and Australia’s Knite.
