Shakespeare's Macbeth was reimagined as an ambitious opera by Italian composer Giuseppe Verdi in 1847 – think prophecies, murder plots, and descent into full-blown madness, all set to sweeping orchestral drama. This latest production from Lirica Arts brings that to life in Singapore. As the iconic play goes, the story follows a man and his wife who descend into murder after a supernatural prophecy promises them power and a rise to the throne. But as their plan slowly starts to spiral, guilt and paranoia drive the couple into madness and destruction.
Look forward to a strong cast: Singapore's own Martin Ng and Jonathan Charles Tay share the stage with Chinese baritone Zhang Feng (dubbed the "Knight of Opera" and awarded Italy's Knight of the Italian Republic Medal) and soprano Zhang Jie. Directed by Tang Xin Xin and accompanied by The Philharmonic Orchestra under conductor Lin Juan, expect Verdi's dramatic score, eerie witches' choruses, and all the dark theatrics Shakespeare's tale demands.
