Growing, cooking and gathering: those are the three main topics of discussion at City Sprouts West Coast’s Masak Masak, a contemporary festival focused on Singapore’s food heritage and future traditions. Discover local flavours and shared stories through a series of interactive farm tours, cooking experiences and hands-on workshops presented by homegrown vendors.
Pro-tip? Come with an empty stomach and a big appetite, as there’ll be plenty of cookouts and communal tables to tuck in throughout the day. Start with a local-style breakfast with Morning Makan Club and join workshops exploring the ingredients and traditional techniques behind dishes like nasi ulam and laksa. Otherwise, pull up a chair for shared meals and stories featuring Peranakan and Southern Islander cuisine.
The discoveries don’t end there. There’s also an all-day curated marketplace featuring small-batch food and cultural finds by local makers, traditional games for the whole family, craft sessions, and a plant clinic, where you can get gardening and edible-growing advice from experts.
Entry to the festival is free. However, selected activities require registration and a paid ticket. You can check out the full programme lineup and details here.
