Did you know that the Mint Museum of Toys screens movies every once in a while? Its curated film programme, MINT Lumens, is back for a second season titled Heroes for Tomorrow. The three-part series spotlights heroes, monsters and the art of tokusatsu, a form of Japanese live-action film that uses practical special effects such as miniatures and animatronics. Each session is followed by a guided tour of the museum, giving you a look at the toys that have inspired the movies. There are also interactive activities, games and free-flow drinks and snacks to enjoy throughout.
This month’s screening is centred on the 1969 Japanese kaiju film, All Monsters Attack. The
comedy, directed by Ishirō Honda, follows a bullied schoolboy who strikes an unlikely friendship with the misunderstood Minya, aka Godzilla’s son, as the pair discover they have more in common than they look.
MINT Lumens Season 2: Heroes for Tomorrow kicked off in May with screenings of Godzilla movies Invasion of Astro-Monster and Ebirah, Horror of the Deep. The programme concludes in July with films on Kamen Rider and Ultraman.
