Now Showing: Tomorrow’s FutureObjectifs – Centre for Photography & Filmmaking 19:30
Stories seen through the eyes of children take centre stage at Objectifs’s latest edition of its outdoor film programme, Now Showing. Titled Tomorrow’s Future, the evening presents four short films from Singapore, Indonesia, South Korea and Palestine. While each story unfolds in a different place and under vastly different circumstances, they all explore the idea of childhood – its innocence, imagination and vulnerability – and the importance of protecting it.
Nisreen Yaseen’s black-and-white film, 10 Minutes Younger, follows two kids – Julie and Waleed – who escape into nature to run away from the social and political pressures surrounding them in Palestine. In Singaporean filmmaker Gladys Ng’s Every Floor Looks The Same, a young girl wanders from her usual routine in search of something to shake up her day.
Little Rebels Cinema Club, directed by Khozy Rizal, centres on a group of best friends who attempt to recreate a scene from a zombie film, while Sprout by Yoon Ga-eun sees a child who loses her way while trying to buy bean sprouts at the market.
The screening is held on a donation basis, with a suggested $15 contribution per person, although you can also offer whatever amount you’re comfortable with.
