The Central Library comes alive after hours with its Pressplay Festival, a biennial arts and culture affair that turns the typically peaceful reading-and-study sanctuary into a vibrant, buzzing bibliotheque-discotheque. From art installations and an art market to live performances and drop-in craft stations, there’s plenty to look forward to at this soirée.
Learn how to silk screen, create beaded illustrations or dance the night away in a silent disco session. Then, kick it back as local favourites like SHYE, Forest, Sun Cell and LAYYI take the stage, performing til midnight. Meanwhile, the curated art market offers a range of knick-knacks and homeware gems. Discover ceramic mugs, magnets, prints, merch and loads more.
But if the library still means a library to you, don’t worry. There’ll be plenty of cosy nooks available for you to get your reading done. Borrow four books or more, and you can redeem an exclusive Pressplay CD key chain.
Beyond the main highlight at Central Library, there are also several Pressplay fringe events happening at the public libraries near you. Look forward to kid-friendly creative workshops in neighbourhood libraries like Toa Payoh, Jurong, Bedok, Bishan, Clementi and Choa Chu Kang throughout the month.
