Singaporean Chinese culture meets fresh perspectives at Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre’s annual youth festival, REMIX. Curated by its Youth Force members, the two-week festival reimagines traditions through contemporary art, theatre, music, photography, craft and design. This year’s programme is jam-packed with activities, ranging from an interactive musical and tea-brewing sessions to an experimental exhibition.
Among the highlights is Finding X, a theatre production by The Solitude Movement, which explores the concept of beauty, gender and identity through a contemporary lens. For something a bit more spooky yet nostalgic, there’s ff, a horror-themed musical set in a haunted CCA practice room. Elsewhere, A Living Stage: Stories of Chinese Opera captures the legacy of Hokkien opera performances and the behind-the-scenes action in a striking photography exhibition.
The programme also extends to workshops and competitions. Cheer on your favourite dance crews as they show off their best Mandarin-inspired choreography in friendly dance battles, or watch as singers and acapella groups take on traditional songs and dialect classics. Come weekends, browse the festival’s Creative Markets where young crafters, makers and designers showcase their unique creations and handmade gems.
