Forget everything you thought you knew about sake, because craft sake is about to have its moment. It swaps the traditional Japanese brewing method for creativity, embracing small-batch production, experimental ingredients and modern techniques to produce bold flavour combinations. This new wave of sake making has taken the nihonshu world by storm – and now, you’ll get a taste of it with Sakerama, a brand-new festival from the organisers behind Sake Matsuri.
Across two days, sample over 100 curated craft sakes from 17 heritage houses and innovative microbreweries across Japan, USA, France and Vietnam. Also on the makers’ lineup is Singapore’s first and only sake brewery, Orchid Sake Brewery, whose craft style combines traditional Japanese techniques with Southeast Asia’s tropical flavours such as cempadak and durian.
To complete the matsuri energy and fully immerse yourself in Japanese culture, there’ll also be a series of masterclasses, live DJ sets and games. You won’t be drinking on an empty stomach either – Ye Olde Cow and The Oyster Cart are on hand to dish out plates that you can pair with your sake of choice. Say kanpaii!
