Kampong Gelam is dialling up the National Day celebrations with an all-day festive programme. From noon til midnight, the Malay cultural and heritage district comes alive with a lineup of family-friendly activities, alongside a live screening of the National Day parade. Throughout the day, expect multicultural music performances, local film screenings, a play corner for the little ones and plenty more. Plus, what’s a celebration at Kampong Gelam without food and drinks? Although tinier than usual, the mini-bazaar is going to be just as packed, offering tasty finds and handmade crafts from indie brands in the area.
While you’re there, don’t forget to leave your mark at Sultan Gate Park’s batik-inspired community mural. The collaborative artwork is open to all ages and no painting experience is required – just remember to reserve a timeslot for your painting sesh in advance. You can sign up here.
Following the parade screening, the live broadcast will be swapped for two local football movies. Catch Ordinary, a short film inspired by the legendary Fandi Ahmad, as well as One Leg Kicking, a comedy classic starring Gurmit Singh and Mark Lee.
