Whether you’re a film junkie or history buff (or maybe both), this conversation on Singapore’s film exhibition spaces might pique your interest. Join philatelist and ephemera collector Wong Han Min, researcher Yeo Min Hui, and designer Melvin Tan as they launch their new book, Singapore Screening Spaces. The collaboration takes the form of a visual time capsule that traces Singapore’s film screening spaces and their five-decade-long history, from the first travelling cinema in the 1890s to the post-war reopening of movie theatres. Compiled from a vast private archive of printed materials, the book pays tribute to the trailblazers of the local film industry.
To celebrate the launch of the title, the authors will host an exclusive conversation to share more about the stories, insights, artefacts, and the process behind making the book. There will also be a special presentation on Singapore movie theatres, with a spotlight on The Capitol.
Following the programme, guests who purchase a copy can get theirs signed by the authors. Each copy also includes free postcards featuring photographs of old cinemas from Wong’s collection.
