What sounds define your neighbourhood? Is it the call of the koel bird in the morning, the clinking of kopi cups at your downstairs coffeeshop, the distinctive thwack of a rattan ball being kicked back and forth as boys play sepak takraw, or something more?

These familiar sounds play in the background, day in and day out. Maybe you don't consciously notice them, but you might miss them when they're gone. Here's a collection of the sights and sounds of neighbourhoods around Singapore – we hope it inspires you to keep your ears perked too.
