Time Out says

What do the artists featured at DECK’s Subtropical Signals have in common? They’re all from Taiwan. The exhibition curates the work of 21 Taiwanese artists across different visual media to help paint a richer and more nuanced portrait of modern Taiwan, its story unfolding in multiple perspectives to capture the overlapping identities on the island.

Through a series of traditional photography, video art, archives, photobooks, spatial installations, and AI-generated imagery that weave intimate stories and memories, the exhibition examines how its colonial histories, maritime connections and migration have influenced everyday life. It puts Taiwan’s cutting-edge innovation and technology next to centuries-old traditions, presenting how these clashing landscapes continue to intersect and co-exist in unexpected ways.
