The next flower taking centre stage at Gardens by the Bay is none other than the sunflower. The latest floral display transforms the Flower Dome into a colourful postcard of Portugal for the first time, featuring more than 5,000 vibrant blooms in 20 varieties. The backdrop is inspired by the country’s scenic countryside and coastal towns, with recreations of Portuguese landmarks and streetscapes, including Alfama, one of Lisbon’s oldest neighbourhoods, and iconic Porto shopfronts. As you move through the field of flowers, you’ll encounter a 6-metre-tall replica of the famous Belém Lighthouse.
Fully immerse yourself in Portuguese culture with Experience Portugal on 10 October. For one day only, savour authentic Portuguese flavours through food and wine tasting sessions. Get a taste of its traditional cheeses, canned fish, cured ham and more. There will also be screenings of two Portuguese movies, Mother Knows Best and Dimensão S3, alongside folk dance performances, poetry readings and a book discussion on Fernando Pessoa’s The Book of Disquiet.
At the centre of the free programme is a photography exhibition that captures the European country’s shared history with Singapore, tracing the connection between our language, traditions and communities.
