Weekend Culture is back this July with a trio of programmes that explore intimate stories of identity, community and cultural exchange through art, film and live performances. The series kicks off with a photography workshop led by Nydia Shiang, who will guide you through the fundamentals of studio lighting, composition and mood to turn your selfies into studio-style portraits that’ll speak a thousand words.
Then, catch Tan Pin Pin’s 2005 documentary, Singapore GaGa, at Swee Lee Clarke Quay. The 55-minute film is a love letter to the sounds and rhythms of everyday Singapore, featuring buskers, street vendors, radio broadcasters, school cheerleaders and more. Make sure to stay on after the screening to test your knowledge on all things local with a Singapore-themed trivia night inspired by the film.
The programme concludes with a lively performance that melds different cultures and traditions on one stage. Expect a drag interpretation of the zapin, a classical Indian dance showcase, plus an energetic set from DJ C2AC. Check out the full programme, dates and ticket details here.
