Books Actually and Epigram presents Reading with Honesty, a reading and discussion with renowned Singaporean-born poet Cyril Wong. If you haven't heard of him, Cyril is a two-time Singapore Literature Prize-winning poet and recipient of the National Arts Council's Young Artist Award for Literature (TL;DR: this is a name that should be on your radar). And he will be reading his brand new novel, This Side of Heaven.
The IG live discusses his book, which follows a comedian, a nun, a reality TV star and countless others who meet in a garden. That marks the beginnings of a parable. The question is: what are the twists and turns that will take place, and what will each character learn?
Originally slated to take place in the bookstore, the event will now be hosted on IG live – so you can sit back from the safety of your home while joining a community of literature lovers. Cyril Wong says: "My process is one of ... never flinching or turning away from the pain of difficult experiences.” And that becomes the basis of his works. To Cyril, speaking with honesty is harder than we think – but it can be rewarding for both writer and reader.
