Western Sydney Parklands is hosting free activities for their 50th birthday

The recreation spaces, picnic areas and sporting facilities at Western Sydney Parklands have been keeping Sydneysiders entertained for 50 years. To celebrate, they’re inviting families and outdoors enthusiasts to a birthday bash of free activities across the 5,280 hectares of the park from July 20 until August 4.

The open day at Bungarribee – near the play equipment and amenities – will get the party started on July 21, with food trucks, tree planting and a visit from friendly zoo animals. But keen racing fans should get in early on July 20 to take a spin around the Sydney Motorsport Park circuit and enjoy a free tour of the race control tower all before 8am.

There’s more family-friendly activities as the celebrations roll on, with astronomy nights exploring Indigenous connections to the constellations, bird watching with avion experts, waterbug fishing, and tours of the tracks and jumps at the Wylde Mountain Bike Trail. Or, if you’re looking to really get moving, sign up for the free workout sessions that’ll prepare you for the Spartan Race that’s coming to the Parklands in October.

If you’re ready to fork out a little cash, there’s also reduced rates for entry to the shooting range, adventure park and Calmsley Hill Farm.

Don’t forget to book ahead to secure a spot for most tours and experiences.
