Although the lockout laws don’t stretch to Double Bay, things still quiet down by 2am, and at this colourful cabana bar midnight is when they stop shaking Vodka Espressos and shut up shop.
But before the witching hours there’s quite the party vibe at Mrs Sippy. The bar up the back of the restaurant is as tightly packed as a socialite’s wardrobe, and just as shiny – the dress code here seems to sit along the divide between your best duds and outrageously expensive casual wear.
The coffee cocktails are crazy popular, and with good reason. They’ve got the balance spot on and a little caffeine does no harm to a night out. Of course they’ve got a cocktail called the Millionaire’s Club, and the mix of Tennessee whiskey, sherry and apricot brandy is actually a lot sweeter than we were expecting – it’d make a good gateway drink if you’re not yet ready for an Old Fashioned.
Expect remixes of dancefloor hits like ‘Can’t Feel My Face’ and old pearlers like Max-a-Milllion’s ‘Sexual Healing’ if you’re up for some dancing, but it’s more about a gentle shimmy than getting real low at this high-end establishment.
