Mandarin marmalade pork ribs, sauvignon blanc sautéed vegetables. Hot cucumber and chopped up fried Chinese doughnuts, outrageously spicy pork dumplings in chilli oil. This is just a little of what to expect at this Taiwanese hole-in-the-wall on the old Spanish Club site. It’s definitely a menu with flair. Bistro Hulu is also the home of ‘diced steaks on sticks’ (dry and spicy!), battered prawns and pineapple napped in mayonnaise (don’t do it) and water spinach served up with sweet miso and sesame (order two). But really, it’s all about those marmalade pork ribs - sweet, sticky, tiny little bites all wrapped in foil like a space age bar snack. Just add beer.
