The NY Met Live screening series lets you see world-class productions from the Metropolitan Opera, at bargain prices – in a cinema. This 2006 production of Puccini’s tragic masterpiece, created by film director Anthony Minghella (The English Patient), has been universally acclaimed by critics, and a favourite with audiences.
The story (which was ripped off to great effect in the blockbuster musical Miss Saigon) follows an innocent young geisha who is seduced and then abandoned by caddish American naval officer Pinkerton. The performance you’ll be watching was recorded in the 2015/2016 season, and features superstar tenor Roberto Alagna in the role of Pinkerton.
