Elizabeth Bay House is in perfect alignment to catch the morning rays on the winter solstice, the shortest day of the year, creating a striking scene as the sun rises over the horizon. Sydney Living Museums don’t want to keep this spectacular view all to themselves, so they’re hosting two breakfast tours where you can admire the dawn sunshine and learn a bit about it from Sydney Observatory’s curator of astronomy Andrew Jacob.
Get rugged up and ready for the glorious sunrise display at 6.30am, and hang around after for a hot drink and buttery pastry in the drawing room. You can also join a tour of the historic house to beef up your Instagram story before everyone else even finishes breakfast. It’ll be one very productive winter morning.
