It seems like all the cool cats have collaborated with Uniqlo UT, a popular line of graphic T-shirts known for its high profile artist collaborations. Last month, Uniqlo dropped the Daniel Arsham Pokémon collection, and now, the latest lineup has been announced – America’s hippest teen singer-songwriter Billie Eilish has teamed up with Japanese pop artist Takashi Murakami for a T-shirt collection.
The designs were inspired by Eilish and Murakami’s previous collaboration – the flower-filled anime music video for her hit song ‘You Should See Me In A Crown’. Twelve T-shirts, including four which are specifically for children, are adorned with Eilish’s name and Murakami’s signature smiling flowers. Purchase two or more items and you’ll receive a special keychain for free.
In this teaser video posted by Uniqlo on Instagram, an anime version of Eilish wears a pair of all-white high tops adorned with Murakami’s signature Kaikai Kiki flower and a T-shirt with a colourful Billie Eilish logo. Unfortunately, those hip high tops are absent from the collection preview on Uniqlo’s website. The three-metre Eilish statue designed by Murakami and featured in the videos will also be on display in June at the new Uniqlo store in Harajuku.
Billie Eilish, the Grammy award-winning singer, is known for her offbeat style, such as lime green roots and baggy clothes. Mixed with the bright, anime-inspired pop art that brought Murakami into stardom, this Uniqlo UT collaboration is a match made in street fashion heaven. This isn’t the first time Murakami’s art has appeared in Uniqlo clothing, though – his bright flowers adorned the Doraemon and friends collection back in 2018.
Online pre-sales start on May 25 and stores will release the line on June 5. Keep your eyes on the prize – famous Uniqlo collaborations tend to sell out fast. To preview the collection see the official website.
