Tokyo’s constantly changing and evolving, and it can be a tad overwhelming to keep up with all the new and upcoming attractions. There’s a lot to look forward to in 2023, including the new teamLab Borderless in central Tokyo, an exciting Harry Potter attraction, and this entertainment complex in Shinjuku’s lively Kabukicho district. Called the Tokyu Kabukicho Tower, this new building will be Japan's largest hotel and entertainment complex, home to a cinema, two luxury hotels, a concert venue, an entertainment food hall and much more.

Calling the space massive is an understatement. The skyscraper features a total of 48 floors plus five basement levels and penthouses. It's set to open on April 14 2023, with the hotels operating from May 19 2023. Here’s a sneak peek at some of the upcoming facilities in this Kabukicho entertainment hub.

Live music hall Zepp Tokyo in Odaiba shuttered its doors in early 2022, but has found a new home at Tokyu Kabukicho Tower. Basement levels one to four will be dedicated to the new music space, with a capacity for roughly 1,500 people, the largest among the live music venues in Shinjuku.

The second floor is an entertainment food hall, which combines food and music in a festival-themed atmosphere. The restaurant tenants have yet to be announced, but you can expect ten food and drink vendors serving regional Japanese cuisines. The food hall will also be equipped with a stage, DJ booth, disco ball, karaoke system and LED lights.

On the third floor you'll find the Bandai Namco amusement centre. There will be more food options here as well as space for events and experiences featuring popular anime, manga and video game characters from the Bandai Namco family.

The fourth and fifth floors will have more entertainment options, including a high-tech attraction by Sony Music and a wellness zone complete with a gym, private sauna and pool terrace.

Floors six to eight will be home to Theatre Milano-Za, a cutting edge performance stage that can accommodate approximately 900 people.

Floors nine and ten will be the 109 Cinemas Premium Shinjuku with a total of eight screens. The movie theatre is said to feature the first panoramic ScreenX in Shinjuku.

The new tower will be home to two luxury hotels: Hotel Groove Shinjuku from floors 18 to 38 and Bellustar Tokyo on floors 39 through 47. Rooms at Hotel Groove have furnishings inspired by art and music, a nod to Shinjuku's lively Kabukicho entertainment district. Right below the hotels on the 17th floor is where you’ll find a restaurant, bar and terrace.

Hotel Bellustar Tokyo, perched 170 metres above ground, makes great use of its lofty position. The hotel has its own restaurant and spa as well as a three-storey atrium with jaw-dropping views of Tokyo.
