‘Princess Mononoke’, the 1997 Studio Ghibli anime released more than 20 years ago, is still relevant today, especially with its message on environmentalism. And if the film is one of your favourites amongst Ghibli’s impressive cannon of Japanese anime, you’ll love this new tote bag from American apparel brand LL Bean.

There are two versions of the roomy carry-all, both featuring the mesmerising Great Forest Spirit from ‘Princess Mononoke’. One portrays him as the day-time Deer God, with a head-full of antlers and the face of a wise old man. The other showcases his night-time alter ego, the Nightwalker, a glowing humanoid beast.

On both bags, the image of the creature is made from a luminescent material, thus creating an eye-catching glow-in-the-dark effect when hit with light. A fitting tribute to the divine Great Forest Spirit himself.

There’s more: along with the new totes, you’ll also find a pair of new keychains, which we assume are inspired by the fairy tale classic ‘Puss in Boots’. One keychain features Totoro peeking out of a miniature LL Bean Boot while the other has Jiji, the black cat from ‘Kiki’s Delivery Service’, doing the same.

The tote bags retail at ¥12,000 while the keychains will only set you back ¥1,800 each. They will be available beginning December 5 and you can get them online or at the GBL store in Miyashita Park.

Psst… Did you know Studio Ghibli has a new film coming out later this month? Here are the deets on ‘Aya and the Witch’.
