It’s not quite on the same level as earning Michelin star, but being awarded a place in the Michelin Guide is no mean feat for a restaurant. For one thing, a place has to be in the Michelin Guide before it has any hopes of getting a coveted star.

The guide’s anonymous inspectors are dining in restaurants all year long, judging them on their mastery of flavour, quality of produce and consistency. Each month, they reveal which new places are worthy of recommendation. Now, the November additions have been revealed.

The latest entries hail from nearly every corner of the country. There’s Beau in Belfast, which the guide praised for its ‘concise menu of produce-led dishes’; LOMA by Graeme Cheevers at the Cameron House hotel on Loch Lomond; Shwen Shwen in Sevenoaks, a West African eatery that Michelin described as ‘colourful, unfussy and joyous’; and St Eia in St Ives, a modern British diner which it said is ‘simply delightful and delightfully simple’.

Michelin gave a special mention to Margaret’s in Cambridge, the chic (and cheaper) younger sister of Michelin-starred Restaurant Twenty-Two (one of Time Out’s favourite restaurants in the city). The guide said that it ‘has the feel of an upmarket bistro’ and that its cooking ‘reflects the seasons with great skill, mining wholly satisfying flavours from the ingredients in dishes that have the confidence not to overcomplicate things’.

Other newcomers include Greek spot Kallos Cafe & Wine Bar in Salford, Sandro’s in Lyme Regis and Bar Cerdita in Norwich. As always, a significant handful of the new entries are from London. You can read more about those here
