Let's be honest: Given its breadth of awesome programming, Netflix deserves all the money we're throwing at them so you can't be too upset about the company's decision to increase the price of its standard U.S. plan from $13 to $14 a month. The premium tier subscription will also increase by $2, to $18 per month. The basic plan, which allows you to stream a production on a single screen at a time at standard definition, will stay put at $9/month.

New customers will be faced with these updated prices immediately while current subscribers will notice a change throughout their upcoming billing cycles.

"As always we offer a range of plans so that people can pick a price that works best for their budget," a Netflix spokesperson said to The Verge

Of course, the hikes have to do with the stiff competition that the streaming giant is running against and the ability to therefore offer even more exclusive content on the platform. The TV landscape has certainly changed since Netflix first launched its streaming service back in 2007. Today, the company is vying for the attention of customers that are also attracted to platforms the likes of Hulu, Amazon Prime and HBO Max, among others.

If you're on the fence about signing up for Netflix or, perhaps, cancelling your account given the price hike, we suggest you browse through our lists of best original Netflix series to stream now, best Netflix documentaries and best family movies on Netflix to make up your mind.
