Sree Krishna

Tooting
Established in 1973, Sree Krishna was the first South Indian restaurant in Tooting and it remains one of the finest to this day. The interior might be reminiscent of a hotel lobby in Ootacamund circa 1965, and the service can be oddly somnambulant, but the kitchen was still on fine form on our visit. Give the bhunas, vindaloos and kormas a swerve and choose instead the ‘vegetarian starters’, the ‘dry vegetables’ and the ‘chef’s specials’, all of which are distinctively South Indian. We can especially recommend the appam and meat curry – giant, saucer-like crumpets with spicy lamb – and the beetroot thoran, a stir-fry of diced and spiced purple tubers. The huge, crisp dosas are also standout.

Great South Indian Restaurant. We visit since 1974. We just love it. Masala Dosa's and Masala Vadas are our family favourites. Kids love some Chicken and Fish Dishes too, It's always a happy & tasty eating here. Well worth a visit. Go on Visit Soon & Enjoy.

One of my favourite Southern Indian restaurants, go there regularly for a feast full of divine vegetarian (and the odd non-vegetarian) dishes. Not for people who want to order standard curry house dishes. This is the place to go if you want to enjoy the delicious flavours & breads of Southern India. The Sunday lunchtime Thali is a treat for anyone who wants to try lots of different flavours & ridiculously good value. The staff are lovely and always make us feel welcome. They give the place a welcoming and relaxed vibe.

I love food. I love consistency. I love authentic South Indian restaurants. Personally, I like the starched white table clothes and 80s/90s feel to the place. The Ginger chicken is one of the most unique dishes I have tried - almost dry and sticky with a unique ginger hit. The butter chicken, and basic meals as well (saag, malabar, rogan josh, etc.) are all excellent. Yes, there is a lot of competition in Tooting, but this place is up there. Charming owners and management.

Oh, for the old days! I started coming here in the 80s: queues for a table, much more basic, but a vibrant atmosphere and fantastic food - massive Masala Dosas! The portions are now leaner, as is the atmosphere, but the quality of the food is still good. Service is a bit hit-and-miss, though. Sometimes you feel you're a hindrance! All round, it's not bad, but if only it could recapture a bit of its old zing.

Six of us had dinner here last night (saturday). I was really impressed, with lots of dishes unseen in the majority of indian restaurants, a significantly large proportion of which were vegetarian. The portion sizes were OK and we were not rushed through the meal, rather it was a nice leisurely pace, well oiled with reasonably priced drinks. Looking forward to returning

We have been coming to this restaurant for years. We always get great service and the food is always good and we don't have to wait long for courses. We really like the food and staff, the restaurant is quieter these days than it used to be but we shall continue to visit.

Same experience as BoobzMcGee ... Saturday night, starter appeared (slowly), ages and ages to wait for main. Second time this has happened to us recently there. Tried to discuss this with someone who seemed to be in charge but he wasn't really interested. Such a shame - have loved this place for years but its now off my list!

Food is pretty tasty but portion sizes are Poor.....Draft Beer is undrinkable and Service Charges are added to the Bill. Better and Cheaper food next door at Apollo Banana Leaf, plus it's bring your own Booze !!!.... Won't return to Shri again, far far better places to eat in Tooting !!
