No Mid-Autumn roundup is complete without a mention of The Peninsula Bangkok, famed for its iconic egg custard mooncakes. Based on a recipe from The Peninsula Hong Kong’s Michelin-starred Spring Moon since 1986, each piece is filled with silky custard and wrapped in golden pastry. Alongside the classic, three flavours return, such as osmanthus tea, lotus seed and durian, each stamped with the auspicious dragon fish motif, exclusive to Mei Jiang Restaurant. This year’s highlight is moonlit masquerade (B6,888), a limited-edition collaboration with Thai artist Pomme Chan. Limited to just 150 sets, it comes in a vegan leather box with collectible teacups featuring mythical creatures, including Jade rabbit, kitsune (fox) and tiger.

During the Mid-Autumn Festival, the moon glows at its fullest, its round shape – mirrored in these festive treats, symbolising unity and togetherness. And Shangri-La Bangkok delivers just that with their limited-edition signature set (B3,888). At the heart of the collection is a large white lotus seed creation with double egg yolks, symbolising the radiant full moon. Surrounding it are seven bite-sized pieces representing stars in the night sky, offered in three varieties: three with mandarin peel, rose and red bean; two custard lava; and two with osmanthus, strawberry and red bean. The celebration extends beyond the plate. The hotel also offers an auspicious hamper (B8,888), featuring delights like a ceramic Chinese tea set, a bottle of Follador Prosecco Treviso Extra Dry DOC and a Jade Rabbit doll.
