  • Silom

A gamut of Middle Eastern eateries dot the Silom stretch, but the relatively new branch of Lebanese institution Al Saray is quickly proving that the restaurant is still one of the best in its category, and Lebanese-born chef Mahdi Zehri is tasked with keeping things authentic.

The brainchild of Oats X Somewhere, one of the city’s most popular lifestyle bloggers, Drop by Dough is a minimalist space that would feel right at place in central Copenhagen. The donuts here are soft and chewy cream-filled treats made with South Korea-imported flour. The flavors are rather exotic, such as raspberry with hints of aromatic rose, young coconut with crunchy coconut bits, or crème brûlée with vanilla and glazed with burnt sugar. A good selection of coffee is also available.

  • Chula-Samyan

This dessert place is known for light and refreshing Thai-Chinese eats such as dou teung (cold assorted beans in longan juice), dou huay (tofu pudding in hot ginger juice) and bua loy (glutinous rice balls in coconut milk). All desserts start at B12.

Guay Teow Kua or stir-fried noodles cooked in hot oil with meat and egg are usually best enjoyed on a sidewalk, served from pushcarts or shophouse eateries that have been making the dish for years. A group of friends that goes by the name "Kua", however, have elevated this humble street food, taking it into a proper restaurant setting and tweaking it with Oriental influences.

  • Thonglor
  • price 2 of 4

A spate of restaurants and bars have been opening in Thonglor this year but only very few have managed to make us burble over with excitement like this humble pasta joint by husband-and-wife restaurateurs Choti and Debby Leenutaphong, the driving forces behind two of the city’s most acclaimed upscale dining institutions: Vesper and Il Fumo.

  • Bang Rak

If it’s not the house and disco tunes pumping in the background that catches your attention, then it’s the enticing variety of food displayed at the counter. Singapore-born Pimp My Salad, run by the team behind Charoenkrung brunch spot Sarnies (another Singaporean brand), will make you rethink how a salad should look and taste—and it doesn’t involve just a bunch of mixed greens and sugary dressing.

  • Restaurants
  • Ice cream parlors
  • Suanphlu

Two lovebirds who share a passion for ice cream are behind this homemade ice cream shop. Each flavor is made with premium ingredients and less sugar. Keep an eye out for their Breakfast Collection, which includes flavors like Coffee with Honey, Peanut Butter Oreo, Blueberry Pancake, and French Toast.

Popular Scandinavian café Rocket Coffeebar has said “adjo” to its long-term companion at Central Embassy, trendy fashion store Siwilai, after it announced plans of opening its own storefront one floor up in 2017. Siwilai, meanwhile, has beautifully bounced back from the break-up by opening its own namesake cafe at the space Rocket just vacated.
