Start your day with a hearty breakfast

Thonglor has its fair share of morning haunts that serve filling meals. There’s a wide range of cheap local joints serving Thai-style meals, such as Boon Tong Keit for chicken rice, Buoy Pochana for duck noodle soup or Khao Gaeng Mae Somporn for a pick-and-mix curry on rice.

You also have many international options to choose from. Head to pharmacy-themed café First Aid Kiss, or check out Sundance Lounge, a one-stop spot for toasts, teas, and coffees. There’s also The Blooming Gallery, where you can start your day in an invigorating, floral setting.

Who says you can’t see the stars during the day? Hop on the BTS to Ekkamai and embark on an adventure into outer space at Bangkok Planetarium. Thailand and Southeast Asia’s longest-running planetarium immerses you in the amazing stories of the stars and the galaxies through a newly refurbished visual technology projected on its domed ceiling. There are also exhibitions and activities that revolve around astrology, geography, and other sciences.

Opposite Soi Sukhumvit 55 (where Thonglor is) lie the less crowded areas of Soi Sukhumvit 36, 38, and 40. These tranquil alleys are home to upscale condos, affluent households, and stylishly casual dining spots.

Soi Sukhumvit 36 has L’Oliva Ristorante, which serves nourishing Italian food, while Soi Sukhumvit 38 has more options such as Ang Morr for western-influenced Chinese meals, Toby’s for Australian-style grub, or Okonomi for modern Japanese cuisine. Soi Sukhumvit 40, meanwhile, has minimalist hideouts NOC Sukhumvit 40 and A Keen House.

After exploring other neighborhoods via the BTS, return to Thonglor for a memorable dinner. The area has a lot to offer when it comes to international cuisines. There’s the hip dining hall The Commons, tapas restaurant El Willy, Nippon hotpot place Masa Garden, or Thai supper club Kate’s Place.

Thonglor is not lacking in fine-dining restaurants, either. One-Michelin-starred Canvas impresses with art-inspired dishes, whereas R.HAAN showcases two-Michelin-starred Thai cuisine. There’s also Restaurant Stage, which displays how a Thai chef can master a delectable French meal.

Thonglor is most suitable for post-dinner pursuits. If you prefer a low-key evening with creative tipples and good music, you may want to consider the dimly lit Bar Scofflaws or café-slash-speakeasy Pennant. Midsummer Night's Dream Bar is an eclectic Shakespeare-inspired bar, while 008 Bar takes you back to the Prohibition era. The quirky office-by-day, bar-come-evening Paper Plane Project is also a good option.

But if sitting still and drinking pretty isn't your thing, explore the wilder side of Thonglor at one of its high-energy clubs. Beam leads the way for house and techno fans, while De Commune is Bangkok's best-kept secret for underground fun. We also recommend The Cassette Music Bar, where you can dance the night away to Thai pop tunes from the '90s.
