We have mixed feelings over the news of Mahanakhon Bangkok SkyBar's permanent closure after two and a half years of providing stratospheric drinking experiences on the 76th floor of King Power Mahanakhon.

“Signing off from Mahanakhon Bangkok Sky Bar, it's been a fun ride and thank you for your support!” This was the announcement revealed on the bar’s official Facebook page on January 5. (See the post below.)

The goodbye note, however, did leave us with a bit of good news. A new venture called  Ojo Bangkok will be taking over the space the sky bar has vacated. Not much else was revealed, but we do know that the venture will be operated by soon-to-open The Standard, Bangkok.

Not only has the bar parted its last farewell, but Bangkok’s iconic high-rise also decided to close down the country’s highest observatory deck, Mahanakhon SkyWalk, in February for renovation in preparation for the arrival of The Standard as well. The building hasn’t yet revealed what the upcoming project taking over the rooftop is.

All in all, the swanky boutique hotel is slated to open in the pixelated skyscraper some time this year (rumored to be in February), and part of its grand opening is the revelation of this new F&B outlet. Our source reveals that Ojo Bangkok will open in May.
