Your guide to Bangkok’s best shopping malls

Set along the Chao Phraya River, ICONSIAM is shaped after a krathong, a floating banana leaf offering, with pleated glass façade inspired by the flowing folds of the traditional Thai shawl, sabai. ICONSIAM feels less like a shopping mall and more like a landmark where Thailand’s heritage is reflected in every detail, from the architecture to the cultural experiences found within.

If you prefer to follow the sound of live music and more outdoor experiences, you’ll find Siam Square’s streets coming alive in Siam. This trio of malls, all connected in some way or another is where you’ll find everything from food to clothing, trinkets to gizmos, all curated and totally Bangkok. The walking streets that connect them are often filled with aspiring T-Pop artists busking, students in their crisp white-and-blue uniforms and effortlessly stylish locals who’ll have you wondering ‘Where’d they get that from?’ The answer: likely here.

Spread across several blocks, wander through the streets and pop into local favourites like Loft Eyes, Garcon Dept, Daddy and the Muscle Academy and ASAPBKK where Thai brands turn creativity into fashion – from cute and quirky designs to cool and whimsical pieces you won’t find anywhere else.

If you’ve managed to hit up every store outdoors, head inside to Siam Center for more Thai designers, local labels and the latest pop-ups, and then continue to Siam Discovery for design-led stores, concept retailers and lifestyle goods that go beyond fashion.

For the shopaholics, don’t wait until you get dizzy to refuel. The bakeries, cafés and restaurants tucked between stores are the perfect excuse to take a break. Just 30 minutes of eating can extend your shopping spree by another hour or two (that’s legitimate girl math).

Walking into Platinum Fashion Mall is like stepping into a bustling market, with vendors shouting out their discounts and the endless rows of stalls in every direction. The deals are hot, but thankfully the air conditioning is cool. With seven floors of all things fashion related from tops, bottoms, accessories to shoes, you can go in and probably come decked out in a whole new outfit for under B500 – all depending on your haggling skill. 

While Platinum is best known as a wholesale shopping mall, you don’t have to buy in bulk. Most vendors are happy to sell individual pieces, though buying  two or more will get you a better price. Maybe a matching shirt for everyone in the family? Just make sure to bring plenty of cash.

And if you still have the energy and the money left over, head next door to ‘Decembers’, a more curated women's fashion department store for those looking to escape the maze of stalls without calling it a day.

CentralwOrld is the easiest place to start if Bangkok’s shopping scene feels like a lot. As Thailand’s largest shopping mall and one of the biggest in the world, it has earned its reputation as a place that has everything you need – and plenty of things you didn’t know you needed.

The beauty of CentralwOrld is that you don’t need a detailed plan. Come looking for fashion and lifestyle brands, stay for the food, wander through the home department, pick up groceries, watch a film or simply escape Bangkok’s heat for a few hours. Families fill the halls on weekends, office workers drop by after work and tourists use it as an easy first stop when they want a taste of Bangkok’s modern mall culture.

It’s a place many locals grow up knowing, where you can arrive without a plan and still leave feeling like you’ve experienced a little bit of everything Bangkok has to offer.

As one of Bangkok’s biggest luxury shopping destinations, Siam Paragon brings together designer labels, world-class dining and entertainment all in one convenient stop in the heart of the city. While most Bangkok malls are known for shopping and food, Siam Paragon takes it a step further with an entire underwater world beneath the mall. SEA Life Ocean World Aquarium is where you can cool off among sharks, penguins and thousands of marine creatures between shopping breaks. 

Once you’ve finished exploring the underwater world, head upstairs to the culinary world waiting for you at Gourmet Eats, the mall’s food hall that brings together Thai favourites, Michelin-rated spots and local must-tries making the decision of what to eat more difficult than ever. Our picks include Here Hai’s famous crab fried rice and the Go-Ang Pratunam chicken rice, two classic dishes that usually come with long queues at their standalone shops but here you can taste both in no time.

One Bangkok is the newest addition to the mall guide but calling it a ‘mall’ feels like selling it short. It’s more like a new city hangout where you see friends catching up over boba, remote workers tapping away on their laptops in aesthetic coffee shops, office workers grabbing groceries on the way home and families spending quality time among the greenery and art spaces – all without the usual mall overwhelm.

Catering to everyone’s love for Japan, One Bangkok is also home to ‘MITSUKOSHI DEPACHIKA’, Thailand’s first Japanese gourmet food hall concept inspired by the famous basement food halls found in Japanese department stores. Wander past glass displays filled with beautifully arranged dishes, Japanese treats and picture-perfect desserts and try your best not to stop at every counter along the way. 

If you have too many treats, walk it off along the ‘Art Loop’, a 2km route weaving through public artworks, galleries and creative spaces. Keep an eye out for the reflective stainless steel sculpture by Anish Kapoor, the same artist behind Chicago’s iconic ‘The Bean’ and see what other hidden gems you stumble across.

With a cascading waterfall running through the middle of the structure, lush greenery and open-air spaces, walking into EmQuartier feels less like entering a shopping mall and more like stepping into an urban garden (without the mosquitoes). 

As you walk in, natural light pours through the large glass walls while the usual concrete mall interiors are replaced with green walls and vertical gardens. Suddenly, browsing through luxury boutiques feels less like a shopping mission and more like a dose of retail and nature therapy. EmQuartier has somehow mastered the art of making shopping feel surprisingly relaxing that even the non-shoppers are not rushing to go home.

Terminal 21 Asok is the only mall where getting lost might actually be part of the fun. Instead of endless, identical corridors, every floor in this themed mall is a different city. From Tokyo’s neon streets and London’s classic red buses to San Francisco’s Golden Gate Bridge, even a simple shopping trip feels like a mini holiday. Snap photos with the oversized landmarks, wander through floors inspired by different cities and see how many destinations you can ‘visit’ in one afternoon. 

Don’t forget you’re still in Bangkok, so enjoy the delicious and affordable food at the mall’s famous ‘Pier 21’ food court. We’re talking meals for less than a B40 to no more than B150 meals, with flavours so good they might just spoil Thai food for you when you return home. Beloved by locals and packed with office workers during lunch, the crowds are all the proof you need that this is more than just a tourist stop. 

Aside from the food, each floor carries its own theme, from cheap clothing to games, toys, toiletries and handcrafted leather. And while the shopping is cheap, fun and high quality, don’t be surprised if your favourite part of Terminal 21 ends up being what’s on your plate.

The champagne-gold exterior and Louis Vuitton’s hard-to-miss illuminated Monogram are your first signs that Gaysorn Village isn’t your average shopping mall. Home to international luxury brands, a curated selection of boutiques and destination dining, this luxury shopping mall focuses on refined experiences and thoughtful design rather than sheer size. Instead of rushing from store to store, the spacious thoughtfully, designed layout combined with elegant cafés and curated shops create a slower shopping experience for those looking to enjoy and indulge themselves.

A highlight of the mall is ‘Le Café Louis Vuitton’, the Maison’s first café in Thailand, and ‘Gaggan at Louis Vuitton’, the brand’s first restaurant in Southeast Asia. But it’s not just the brands they house that feel luxurious but the mall experience itself.

Not every mall has to be for shopping, some are worth visiting for just sightseeing (if you can resist). Dusit Central Park brings together shopping, dining, hospitality and public spaces that embodies Bangkok’s ‘concrete jungle’ moniker.

The highlight is Thailand’s largest elevated urban roof park, a seven-storey-high green escape sitting beside Lumphini Park. Stroll through landscaped pathways, native greenery and open terraces while Bangkok’s skyline unfolds around you. It’s giving New York City’s High Line, where nature and the city blend together, until you look closely and catch two BTS trains passing through, reminding you this peaceful garden is floating right above one of the city’s busiest neighbourhoods.

While the ‘shopping companions’ enjoy the views outdoors, the serious shoppers can stroll through the mall’s mix of international names, Thai brands, lifestyle stores and restaurants so everyone leaves happy whether they came to shop or simply take in the view. 

1 Rama IV Road, Si Lom, Bang Rak. Open daily 10am-10pm

Impossible to miss but often overlooked, the bold ‘Red Building’ across the street from Chatuchak Weekend Market, is a vintage paradise better known among locals than tourists. Step inside and you’re greeted by the unmistakable musky scent of a thrift shop – a mix of worn leather, aged denim and vintage clothes from another era. 

No two stalls are alike, with each booth reflecting the owner’s personality, interests and personal collections. One might be filled with retro jackets and cartoon collectibles, while the next has antique lamps, old cameras or Thai amulets. There’s really no telling what you’ll uncover here which is what makes it fun to see what you’ll treasure you’ll bring back. 

If you’re only after the clothing, don’t waste your time on the lower floors and head to the top three – they’re packed wall to wall with all the vintage threads you could dream of, and prices that don’t stink either.

If you’ve already shopped a little too much and need to pick up an extra suitcase that’s affordable yet sturdy enough to survive the knocks, bumps and rough handling of airport baggage, MBK Center is where you should head to to spend those last few Thai baht. Packed with everything from Thai souvenirs and trendy fashion to electronics, beauty products, accessories, snacks and travel essentials, its eight floors are full of temptations. And with a new luggage purchase while you’re there, you’ll have plenty of room. 

It also houses the largest electronics market in the city, where you can find literally every make and model you could dream of finding (watch out for fakes) and get every repair, replacement or upgrade you ever need. 

Whether you’re hunting for last-minute gifts or squeezing in one final shopping spree, MBK is the place to stretch your remaining baht.
