Sadly, this year’s Christkindlmarket mug is not a boot

You'll be drinking glühwein out of an elegant flute as the market celebrates its 25th anniversary.

Back in 2019, the much-requested boot-shaped mug made a triumphant return to Christkindlmarket, where thousands of visitors used it as a commemorative vessel for steaming glühwein. This year, you'll have to settle for a more elegant flute-shaped mug, which honors the 25th anniversary of the German-inspired holiday market.

The official Christkindlmarkt mug, which depicts a market scene against the distinctive Chicago skyline, was unveiled this morning alongside the official non-alcoholic beverage mug that will be available at markets in Daley Plaza and Wrigleyville, beginning on November 19. This year's kid-friendly mug depicts "Peppermint the Penguin," who is dressed in a green tuxedo, hold's a Chicago flag towel and, according to a press release, "is ready to party."

Christkindlmarket also revealed its first annual ornament, providing another collectible item that holiday market devotees will need to secure each year. The glass-blown, hand-painted ornament from Europe depicts Christkindlmarket stalls and the Chicago skyline... though it's definitely an abstract interpretation of the city. Check out the photo below and we think you'll see what we mean.

Coinciding with the announcement of the official mugs and ornament, Christkindlmarket has also started accepting pre-orders for a variety of gift boxes (and individual mugs and ornaments) via its online store. You may remember that the virtual Christkindlmarket store was launched last winter when the market canceled its in-person events. It's back this year, giving folks in Chicago and beyond a chance to order festive goods from home. Online orders will begin shipping on November 25, a few days after the markets open to visitors.

For those who can't wait to start sipping hot wine and cocoa in a festive outdoor setting, Christkindlmarket is only a few weeks away. And perhaps organizers will bring back the beloved boot mugs next year.
