You could go out tonight and get an internationally ranked slice

Chicago’s pizza legacy just scored another international bragging right: a local spot has again been named one of the best pizzas on the planet, landing on a new global ranking alongside pies from cities like Rome, Tokyo and Sydney.
According to a recent global list compiled by Time Out editors around the world, only two U.S. pizzerias made the cut for the 18 best pizzas globally—and once again, one of them is the homegrown Milly’s Pizza in the Pan.

The ranking, released earlier this month, highlights what editors called the “weirdest, tastiest and most lip-smacking pizzas” in their home cities, spanning a wide range of styles and toppings across multiple continents.
Milly’s Pizza in the Pan landed at No. 12 on the list, a slight fall from its No. 11 spot in 2025. Editors again singled out Milly’s thick-crust Untitled #1 as a standout example of Chicago’s signature pizza style, saying it represents the pinnacle of the city’s most iconic dish, topped with cheese, tomato sauce, pepperoni and jalapeños.
"My head exploded this morning. We were named one of the best pizzerias in the world by Time Out London for 2026," owner and founder Robert Maleski wrote in a Facebook post. "This honor is all about my employees. They are the ones that should get all the credit. Thank you Chicago for the incredible support."
The only other U.S. pizza to make the ranking took the top overall spot: a cacio e pepe pie from New York pizzeria Mama's Too. The rest of the list spans the globe, including inventive pies like a margherita topped with artichokes, ham, olives and egg in Rome, a chimichurri-topped marinara in London and an umami-forward pie topped with dried shiitake mushroom cream sauce, mackerel, bonito flakes, kombu, green onions, sesame and soy sauce in Tokyo.
For Chicago, the recognition reinforces the city’s long-standing pizza reputation. While deep dish remains the most famous export, newer spots like Milly’s (known for pan-style pies with crispy edges and thick, airy crusts) are helping redefine what Chicago pizza can look like on the world stage.
For locals, it’s a reminder that you don’t have to travel far to try one of the world’s most celebrated slices. And for visitors, it’s one more reason to add a Chicago pizza crawl to the itinerary. As locals could have told you, some of the world’s best pies are right here.
