After Croatia was hit by a brief flurry of snow last week, weather warnings have been issued ahead of the ‘coldest week of winter’. Winter is taking root after a forgiving January, as temperatures are predicted to plummet below zero; a blistering -9C on mainland Croatia and -5C on the coast.

Snowfall has been spotted on the highland areas around Gospić and is expected to hit central and eastern Croatia late this evening, reaching Kvarner and Istria later this week. At least 30cm of the white stuff is expected to fall in Zagreb by Friday. The arctic front is set to reach the Dalmatian coast towards the middle of the week, also bringing strong winds.

Weather agencies are predicting even colder temperatures next week, with temperatures expected to drop as low as -15C in some places. Brrrrrr.
