The art of repetition occurs when one is comfortable with a routine. But when it becomes too comfortable, that’s when you start losing your identity, you start losing experiences. Gan Siong King uses painterly representations to convey his fascination with how we deal with the way we see and interpret things. Gan has deliberately crafted this exhibition around the concept of repetition to express ideas about perception, recognition and memory. Through ‘The Horror, The Horror’, Gan also approaches the notion of shifting identities and the different kinds of personas society has labelled on an individual.
This time around, his work will be staged in a purpose-built white cube within the APW warehouse. What visitors can expect is a one-of-a-kind experience of walking through an installation of paintings.
