In this touching tragicomedy set at the end of the Cold War, Christiane, a fervent supporter of Germany’s Socialist Unity Party, suffers from a heart attack after her son Alex is arrested by the police at a protest. She falls into a coma for eight months, during which the Berlin Wall falls. When she wakes up, the doctors warn Alex that any major shocks might be enough to kill her. Desperate to keep her alive, Alex creates a fake reality to convince his bedridden mother that communism is still alive and well. Directed by Wolfgang Becker.
