DiverseCity: Alim Qasimov Ensemble – Mugham singing of Azerbaijan

Mugham is a folk musical composition from Azerbaijan and Alim Qasimov is critically acclaimed for his knowledge of this tradition and for bringing it to the international stage. The Azerbaijan Mugham combines classical poetry and musical improvisation and each performance features a male or female singer along with musicians on traditional instruments such as the tar (a long-neck lute), the kamancha (a four-string spiked fiddle) and the daf (a type of large tambourine). Alim Qasimov will be performing with his daughter, Fargana Qasimov, and their ensemble for this DiverseCity exclusive.
