If you paid attention, you’ll know that Ryan Raddon, better known as Kaskade, has been in the trenches of EDM for over a decade, having created remixes for chart toppers Beyonce and Lady Gaga. Bouncy pop women aside, he can be seen as an innovator of sorts, having laid down the groundwork for powerhouses Deadmau5, Tiësto and Skrillex to flesh out their repertoire. Despite having a taste for house, Kaskade is also deeply influenced by new wave bands like The Cure, Echo and The Bunnymen and The Smiths. A champion of post-rock EDM, he has headlined over 200 shows annually for the past ten years.
Kaskade has the tendency to pick female vocalists with dewy voices for his productions. Picking out only a few good tracks from his portfolio is hard, but start with ‘Fire in Your New Shoes’ featuring Martina Sorbara from Dragonette and you’ll know precisely what we mean. Such is his signature sound; you won’t hear pounding beats and gratuitously scratchy, waffled synths. Kaskade’s visit this round might not pack the same punch as his US live shows, but we are sure KL fans will not be disappointed. Jay Chooi
