Ready for World Cup Fever? From the CR7 bar to a screen in a garden, we give you the best places to watch sports in Lisbon

The list below has it all. There are more fancy restaurants and bars (it may seem strange, but even when watching football you can lift your pinkie), others with more sauce (literally sauce, where it is almost certain that you will get a mustard stain). Having said that, we believe that in the list that follows you will find one (probably more) that will fill your measures. Then, just hope that your team doesn't disappoint - and if they do, you are already in the right place to drown your surrows.

The best places to watch sports in Lisbon

  • Bars and pubs
  • Craft beer pubs
  • Marvila

"Jola, bola e a melhor musicola" ("beers, footie and the best tunes") is Fábrica Musa's motto for a month dressed in red and green, with a big screen, a sound system, foosball tables and topical appetisers. The games play out not just on the pitch but also in the kitchen, where you can expect Portugal to be matched against Spain, Morocco, Iran and others. There's bocadillos, "bifana" pork steaks, couscous, torricados, tamales and currywurst.

Real Sports Bar

  • São Sebastião

The name says it all. Here, even friendly matches are highlighted on social networks, and duly broadcast on TV screens. Just memorize the relevant dates and come along.

  • Bars and pubs
  • Baixa Pombalina

The kind of place where you should go if you need to see, say, Aston Villa playing Fulham. Here you can watch the World Cup surrounded by the English - the fans and the food as well.

  • Bars and pubs
  • Cocktail bars
  • Cais do Sodré

"A tailored World Cup". What else would you expect from Alfaiataria ("tailor shop")? They're showing the entire competition and Vanessa Cotrim notes that particular plans were made for Portugal and Brazil matches: every goal scored by either team means a two-for-one special on beers. The most original fan gets free drinks throughout the Cup (there's a daily vote by patrons) and there's karaoke at halftime and after the games. Add "cheese, sausage, our  most famous dish Anitta [sweet and sour Calabresa sausage with onions] and 'montaditos'". And cool off with "caipirinha" (€7), here nicknamed "Gravata". Considering Portuguese colours, we suggest Gravata Verde (green - green apple, pepper and 'cachaça' sugarcane liquor) or Gravata Vermelha (red - strawberries, basil and sake).

  • Cultural centres
  • Belém

The perfect spot if you like to join culture and football fervour. The Casa da América Latina is - obviously - most focused on Latin American teams, but Portugal games will be broadcast live as well.

  • Cais do Sodré

Armchair managers, this is the place for you. The Couch lies right near the Cais do Sodré, one of the epicentres for celebrating/ commiserating after the matches. Getting there is half the fun of being in this sports bar. Follow their Facebook and look for their football quizzes to earn free drinks.

More screens than Cristiano Ronaldo has golden balls, a plus in this instance. Among all the choices for watching football in hotels, there's no escaping the Portuguese captain's downtown location.

Hotel Fontecruz Lisboa

The team at Hotel Fontecruz's Small & Delicious Bar prepared a selection of teas to celebrate the recent royal wedding; imagine what they have in store to cheer on the Portuguese national team. A sanctuary in the middle of the city.

  • Restaurants

Portugal was placed in Group B of the 2018 FIFA World Cup, right along with Spain, Morocco and Iran. And, lucky as we are, Lisbon is full of restaurants from all over the world for us to try in a time like this. Nuestros hermanos are very well represented here with their ovos rotos, Marroco with their tajines and there are iranian kooftehs hidden in some great small restaurants around the city.
