Bernd and Hilla Becher

For the past fifty years, the revered husband and wife duo have studied industrial buildings with scientific precision. Their extensive photographic series’ of cooling towers, gas tanks and coal bunkers, reveal the varying typologies of these conventional Western European structures. Here, five series by the influential Düsseldorf Art Academy teachers along with selected large-scale photographs elevate the monotonous edifices into majestic forms of cultural and artistic significance.
