Eliza by Michael Gaskell

From famous sitters to family members, like Michael Gaskell’s acrylic painting of his niece ‘Eliza’ (pictured), every face tells a different story in this annual portrait prize. Now in it’s 36th year, this prestigious painting competition presents the many different faces of society by emerging and established painters who each approach portraiture with dynamic zeal and innovative vision.

Really interesting exhibition and it's free, too. Visitors will find a great variety of artists of different backgrounds and ages displaying a wonderful mix of portraits. It's worth reading the descriptions to understand the story behind every piece. The exhibition can be pretty crowded but is definitely worth a visit every year.
