Dulwich Street Art Festival Tours
Time Out says
Friendly warning! We're working hard to be accurate. But these are unusual times, so please check that events are still happening.
Here’s an unlikely pairing that illustrates just how far the business of expressing yourself artistically in public places has penetrated the mainstream. In May this year, the Dulwich Picture Gallery ( possibly the world’s oldest public art gallery and home to an Old Masters collection with the likes of Murillo, Rembrandt and Rubens) combined forces with Street Art London to curate the Dulwich Street Art Festival. It was a ten-day ‘live art’ affair that saw 20 of the world’s best street artists paint SE21 red – and green, and blue, and so on – taking baroque works from the gallery as inspiration.
Now they’ve teamed up again to lead a series of three-hour tours along the festival route and show off the results. These include works by Phlegm, ROA, Conor Harrington, MadC, REKA, RUN, Pablo Delgado and Thierry Noir. Starting at East Dulwich station, the tours wind their way through the area to end at the gallery, where a guide introduces the original works that inspired the contemporary open-air artists. Clearly, great things can happen when two organisations willing to break down barriers meet in the street.
