Three cheers for artist and craftivist Lucy Sparrow, who is back in London with a new free installation at Lyndsey Ingram Gallery Mayfair. Sparrow has a passion for small businesses and she really, really loves sewing stuff out of felt. Her installations involve her hand-making hundreds tins of SPAM, tomato ketchup and other consumer products out of felt, and and stacking the shelves of shops with them (previous cult hits include an NYC bodega, a London cornershop, and an 80s supermarket, hence the SPAM).
Her latest is a felt pharmacy: The Bourdon Street Chemist. It’s love letter to the high street chemist and the essential products which have helped many of us through the lockdown. It’s free to see but you’d better get in quick and pre-book a slot here before it opens on Monday 19 April (closing on 8th May). No shoplifting the veruca cream, please!
