This year, to celebrate the Lunar New Year, The Steam Room has teamed up with Niconico.
There will be a series of free workshops on Jan 15 and Jan 22 where you can create your own personalised red pockets that will go towards creating a beautiful display of lai sees at The Steam Room’s shopfront window. The east London laundrette will also turn into a special store selling work from artisan makers from the East and South East Asian community in the UK and their unique lai sees will be available for purchase. Lai sees are little red envelopes traditionally given to people to celebrate the Lunar New Year and wish them good luck and prosperity.
Sign up to get a spot and there will be a limited number of lai see on day of event. All supplies will be supplied, but feel free to bring your own tools and old envelops to get creative and crafty. The display will run from January 29 to February 11.
