The expression “Money for Old Rope” dates back to a time when souvenir hunters would pay for the fibres of a used noose that was used in a public execution, it’s value transformed through its association to the famous criminal, and essentially refers to the process of profiting through selling seemingly worthless items. Featuring a white pyramid constructed out of stacked toilet rolls by 2001 Turner Prize winner Martin Creed, this group exhibition reveals how each of the six artists including Tracey Emin, Boo Saville and Susan Collis sees value where one might ordinarily see waste, and inquires into the question of how we place value on different things.
