With mythical creatures, human figures and scenes of warfare over varying patterns, Omar Ba’s paintings carry international-political overtones. While most of the works in State of Emergency were created throughout his recent visit to Dakar, the paintings reveal an amalgamation African and Western influences, most likely as a result of having lived both in Senegal and Switzerland. State of Emergency therefore attempts to provoke and inspire on a universal level.
