Since his Royal Academy Schools graduation show, the London-based Filipino artist has employed the fabricated myths of the former Filipino dictators Ferdinand and Imelda Marcos in his multi-media practice. Influenced by the recent histories of his homeland, Abad’s solo show focuses on the Marcoses accumulation of collectible objects and the consequences of their authoritarian government. Through sculpture, painting, photography and text, he appropriates the Marcoses illusionary techniques to revelatory effects.
